SIRI: the Smart Industry Readiness Index
A practical guide for factory leaders in Saudi Arabia and Jordan: what SIRI measures, how it is used, and how to get value from an assessment rather than just a score.
What SIRI measures
SIRI was developed by the Singapore Economic Development Board with TÜV SÜD as a common language for assessing how far a factory has adopted Industry 4.0. It is now run internationally by INCIT, the International Centre for Industrial Transformation.
The framework looks at three building blocks, eight pillars and sixteen dimensions. Each dimension is rated in bands from 0 to 5.
The three building blocks
Process
Pillars: Operations, supply chain, product lifecycle
Dimensions: Vertical integration, horizontal integration, integrated product lifecycle
Technology
Pillars: Automation, connectivity, intelligence
Dimensions: Nine dimensions: each pillar at shop floor, enterprise and facility level
Organization
Pillars: Talent readiness, structure and management
Dimensions: Workforce learning and development, leadership competency, inter- and intra-company collaboration, strategy and governance
SIRI in Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources launched the Future Factories Program in July 2022, working with INCIT and using the SIRI methodology to assess factories. The program aims to move 4,000 factories toward automation and higher manufacturing efficiency.
For a factory, the assessment is the start, not the goal. Its value comes from what you fund next and in what order.
How an assessment runs with me
- Prepare Kick-off with leadership, scope, and baseline data collection.
- On site Shop-floor walk and interviews with production, quality, maintenance, warehouse and IT.
- Assess Current band for each of the sixteen dimensions, with evidence.
- Roadmap Priorities, phases, budget ranges and KPIs, presented to leadership.
How to prepare
- Name an owner from operations, not only IT
- Collect the last three months of production, quality and downtime data
- List your current systems: ERP, SCADA, spreadsheets, and how they connect
- Agree in advance what leadership wants to decide after the assessment
